An online marketplace is making it easier for shoppers to support the businesses they love most.

More than 80 businesses in the borough of Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, are boosting post-lockdown recovery with added support from ShopAppy.com, an online shopping platform for businesses across the UK, which makes it easier for residents to support their local high street from the comfort of their home.

Broxbourne Borough Council subscribed to the service to enable independent shops and businesses in the area to join the collective, local shopping website for free until December 31.

Customers can browse, book, buy, collect or receive deliveries from multiple businesses but with one checkout. The digital show window also allows customers to browse or plan their shopping trip in advance.

Since launching in October, around 85 businesses from a variety of sectors in the borough have signed up to ShopAppy.com and more than 50 of these are now active with over 350 products and services listed.

Councillor Lewis Cocking, leader of Broxbourne Council, said: “This website is accessible with no download or sign-in required and will really showcase what businesses in the borough have to offer.

“Local businesses have already started joining this online marketplace to make it easier for people to support the shops they love.

“This is not just about shops, ShopAppy.com can help services, trades, business-to-business businesses, chefs, pop-ups, entertainers and market stalls with click and collect, home delivery and even has the function to host virtual events such as fairs and markets.

“These are all ways in which an online presence can support our economic recovery.”

Dr Jackie Mulligan, the founder of ShopAppy.com, added: “It could not be a more critical time for businesses to work together and make it easier for locals to spend closer to home.

“When we spend local, our spend stays  local – so whether you use ShopAppy to browse and go in person, or to book something or shop online, you can easily help your area.”

To celebrate the launch of the website in the borough, ShopAppy, in partnership with the council, is running a competition for residents to win one of four £25 vouchers. Click here to find out more.
