Bellway is set to build 219 homes at the new St James’ Park neighbourhood in Bishop’s Stortford after acquiring a 12.67-acre parcel of land within the wider site.

The new homes will form part of a 750-home scheme being led by Countryside and will also include a care home, shops, employment space, a primary school, and a new home for The Bishop’s Stortford High School.

Outline plans for the redevelopment of the 131-acre site to the south of Whittington Way were approved in December 2020.

Under the proposals, Bellway will build 119 houses and 12 apartments for private sale, and 88 affordable properties for rent or shared ownership.

If plans are approved, construction is expected to start in autumn with a launch earmarked for spring.

Ali Maruf, managing director of Bellway North London, said: “St James’ Park is an exciting project which will create a brand-new neighbourhood on the southern edge of Bishop’s Stortford, and one we are very much looking forward to being a part of.”
